For many travelers, going solo is the only way.  You do what you want, when you want, and spend as much money as you want.  And, chances are, you meet more people than group travelers because you don’t have the comfort zone of a familiar face.  But there are a few drawbacks – loneliness, fear, risk and the dreaded moments of dining alone.  Then there’s the biggie: money.

Solo travelers have long had to deal with the single supplement.  Packages and hotel rooms are usually based on two people sharing – and if there’s just one of you, you still pay the double rate.  But there are a few ways for solo travelers to see the world on their own terms and their own budget and having a caring and knowledgeable travel consultant is a big plus.

We are fully aware of all the companies that accommodate single travelers and in fact, many court them.  Several travel companies arrange a same-sex roommate so that you can enjoy all the fun and companionship without the extra single supplement charge.

Cruises are another good option for single travelers.  The atmosphere lends itself to solo travel with assigned dining companions, lots of group activities, singles meet-and-greet parties and organized events.  Many of the larger cruise lines have single staterooms where the maximum occupancy is one person.  Other lines will match you with a same-sex roommate and if you are a single female traveler and you feel the need for a little male companionship, keep in mind that some ships even have male escorts on staff for your dancing pleasure.

If you prefer to find your own traveling companion, there are lots of easy ways to do that too.  There are plenty of singles travel clubs that match up people with like interests, usually for a small fee or annual membership charge.
